Kyira, Bella, Marcello, and Zane: How It All Began

Kyira groaned and scrubbed her make up off. She dried it off and tried to put on what she could.

Zane sat in the same place the whole time, not moving, but following Kyira with his eyes.
He jumped up when there was a bang-bang-CRASH! from the main room in the apartment.

Kyira cursed loudly and ran to where Bella last was.
"What happened this time?!"

There were three big burly police officers in the living room wrestling Bella out the door, Marcello trying to get to her, but with no avail. One walked over to Kyira, "Please don't fight for her. Her mother called to report that this girl was being held against her will and we are to take her back to her family."

"Are you f****** kidding me?! Her parents gave her up!! The doctors said I was supposedly her guardian now! If you take her away I'll file a lawsuit on this hole damn police force and I'll have all of your damn badges. Let her go, now!"
Kyira was half ready to take them all down.

"We'll sort this out at the station if you'll just come with us." The officer said calmly. He wasn't about to risk it with either one of the women. "We won't take her directly home if you are certain that we have been misled."

"I'm as certain as I am breathing. Just ask her if she's being 'held against her will'."
Kyira looked at Bella, knowing what she'd say.

Bella still had blood on the corners of her mouth and looked rather like an abuse victim. "I ran away and Kyira found me."
There was a glimmer of hope in her eyes that her parents actually did want her, even though she was staying with Kyira.

"If she'd been held against her will, she'd be bound and gagged. Or locked in the bathroom. But she's been taken care of and she can leave whenever she wants, she knows that."

Bella nodded, and the officer looked between the two girls, "I'd still like for you two to come down to the station and help me sort through this mess."
Zane came in and put his arm around Kyira, "Is everything OK?"

"Not anymore." Kyira whispered.
She followed the officers outside, feeling every nerve in her body burning.

Even though the officer said only Bella and Kyira needed to come, Marcello and Zane came as 'moral support'.
At the station, Everyone could hear Bella mother shouting at the officers from her end of the phone.

Kyira walked up to the officer and held her hand out, asking for the phone.

The officer gladly handed Kyira the phone as Bella's mother continued to rant.

Kyira smirked as she started talking.
"Mom?"
Kyira sounded exactly like Bella.

Her voice immediately turned kind and almost affectionate, "Bella, sweety, please tell the nice police man to let you come home."

"Mom, I don't want to come home. You're a horrible person. You don't love me and you don't care. I'm staying with Kyira. Leave me alone."

"Bella, honey, you know that isn't true. Your father and I love you very much and we just want to see you again."
Kyira knew that would have worked on the real Bella. The promise of her parents' love was more than she could hope for.

"You know, you're a real work of art Mom. I don't buy it, not anymore. I'm legally not your child anymore, so leave me alone, or I'll have a restraining order on you."

There was a long pause, "Kyira, give my daughter the phone."
She said quietly.

"As if."
Kyira made a weird noise and hung the phone up.
"If she calls back, do me a favor and help me get a restraining order on her."

The officer nodded, understanding her hatred toward the Mrs. Strauss.
Bella was asleep on a couch in the corner, lines of sorrow and stress painted on her face. Usually she looked so calm when she slept. Now, she looked frightened, sad, and easily broken.

"Do me a favor...can you look up any paper work that proves they renounced her or gave her up? I want them to be legally unable to touch her...soon."

The officer nodded and went into the other room to get what Kyira asked just as Zane came in, looking at the look on Kyira's face and Bella's, he hugged Kyira tightly.
"I'm really sorry."
