Vampire Diary Ch 5: Prince of Darkness

"I'm good with that." He said, setting Bella in his lap and sitting next to Jan.

Jason poked his head out of the hole. "and keep your eyes and ears open. if you see or hear any bats let us know" he said returning to his digging. he was extrealy fast at this..

Zane nodded, "We got ya, kiddo." he smirked.

Jason came up about ten minutes later, shaking out his fur. "this tunnel goes out almost a mile" he said shaking the dirt from his fur. He shifted back into human form and looked out a crack at the sky, scanning for bats. He took a breath. He lept up to an overhanging beam and crossed his legs, meditating a bit. Zane would know from the past that Jason did this only when he felt he was going to be faced with a fight he couldn't win, and that was seldom.

Zane nodded, "It'll be fine."

Jason nodded a bit. "if they come in a swarm.... i'll have to break the seal for this" he said taking a breath as he meditated more to calm himself.

"What seal?" Bella asked, a little confused.

Jason sighed and lept down, showing her the back of his neck, where a blue diamond marking was. "it's the seal that keeps the demon's power contained. If I unleash the seal, my power will go through the roof, the problem is, when I use the demon's power, the demon has a better chance of taking over my body and using it to destroy everything in sight. If the demon takes over when I brea the seal, you all must get out of here as fast as possible. I'll find you again after I get control should it come to that" he said closing his eyes as he sat down apart from everyone else.

Bella made a face, "That doesn't sound good..."

Jason chuckled. "let's just say, if you're around when the demon takes over, you won't be alive much longer.. ask zane, he's seen it when i'm at normal" he said sighing a bit. "with any luck if the demon side comes out the bats will kill me before I hurt any of you" he said.

Zane lifted his shirt enough to show a long scar running around his midsection.

"I've had mmy fair share of time around demons... not fun, but managable." He said, grimmacing.

"not anything like the one in me" he said chuckling grimly. "if zane had moved any slower he would have been cut in two, and that was the demon playing with him" he said sighing. "don't try to be a hero. If my demon takes over, just get the girls and run. If zane tries to stay knock him out and drag him with you" he said keeping an eye on the sky.

Zane shrugged, "Trust us on this one, Jason. We're more experienced than you give us credit for."

Jason sighed. "zane just do what I say this time" he said. "I don't want to have to live knowing I killed any of you" he said.

"You won't have to." Zane said simply.

"then if the demon side comes out, leave." he said walking towards the door. he could hear screeching in the distance. "zane, lock me out so they can't get in" He said as he walked out the door and looked towards the black cloud heading his way.

"I'm not playing hero. That's what you do. I've handled demons, possessions, all that sh*t." He said, standing up.

Bella nodded, Zane stood, "I can get the girls out of the way, if you'd like to help, too."

"zane I swear keep him in there. I don't want to risk any more lives than we have to" he said. It was just how he was. He didn't have any problem with putting his own neck on the line, but he was incredibly stubborn when it came to risking the lives of anyone else. He watched the storm approach. "Zane lock up NOW" He said shooting a glare back at zane.

Jonathan nudged Zane. "Dude, you might wanna listen to him" he said

Zane hesitated a bit, taking Janzelle and Bella and flying off.

Jonathan followed as best as he could on foot.

Jason waited until they were all inside the barn and locked in. he faced the sky once more, the black cloud of bats drawing nearer.

Jonathan slammed the barn door shut. "Man, you know how to book it" he said while walking up to Zane.
