"So, what exactly do you do? I mean, I'm guessing it's something to do with the military." Mira asked.

Alfred nodded, this may end badly. But they would have to report sometime. "You will have more to lose if this goes badly. I will give the report to him if you would prefer." What did I just say? What is this woman doing to me? I never let this happen. And what is this feeling?

Dianne shook her head, "No, I'm more experienced in smoothing over bad news. I'll tell him. You can accompany me if you wish?"

Jaeger nodded a bit, frowning slightly. "I'm a soldier, sort of. It's complicated."

Alfred led the way back to the house. He was still trying to figure out what was happening to him.

Dianne opened the door, holding it for Alfred.

Mira chuckled, "I suppose it is."

He looked at the door a bit. "Damn. How long is this lockdown gonna last?"

"Until the other two come back, I suppose." Mira exhaled, "Sorry I'm such bad conversation."

Alfred entered the house. He looked around the entrance. "So, were is the general?"

Dianne nodded towards the stern-looking man standing at the top of the staircase, talking to one of the officers, "There."

Alfred approached the stair case and cleared his throat to signal that they had returned. He prayed that the General would not have him executed for failure.

The general looked down the stairs, excused himself from the man he was speaking to, then walked over to Dianne and Alfred. "I hope you have good news?"

Alfred cleared his throat again, but this time it was to buy time while he thought of how to smooth this over. He rarely reported failure and never to someone so high up.

"We paused the assassin into the sewers..."

He shrugged a bit. "Don't worry about it. I'm not exactly an interesting person. Conversation isn't my strong point."

Mira shrugged, "You've not been bad."

The general nodded, "And...?"
Dianne took over, "I'm afraid we were just a fraction of a second too late. We lost him. I'd say it's safe to assume he's in the sewers. We know generally which direction he's in, so tracking him wouldn't be too difficult with the proper equipment."

Alfred's hands were sweating. He didn't know what would happen. He swallowed and looked at his feet.

The general seemed more uneasy than anything, "Continue with the investigation. I don't want you two to rest until this fellow is caught and punished."

He smiled slightly. "Yeah, well, maybe that'll change soon." He said.
