Are We Angels? Part 1

Jason nodded a bit. "umm okay" He said following him. he wondered what this guy had to show him.

Rebecca thought about it, "Yes."

Cai smirked. "Great!"

M landed in a far corner of the graveyard, far away from anything else. Laying up against a bolder was a statue of a woman with wings who looked almost exactly like Rebecca, but softer. Her eyes, though closed as if she were asleep, seemed kind and welcoming, and had a strange sort of peace that made you want to lay next to her and never get up. M looked over at Jason, "This is my wife. She's also Rebecca's mother."

Rebecca laughed, "You are so easily amused."

"So I've been told. But, anyway, have anything in particular that would intrest you?" Cai asked.

"why did you bring me here to see her?" Jason asked quietly. he wondered about the statue a bit, such as how long had it been here.

"You know what I like better than I do." Rebecca reminded him.

"I wanted you to see why I loved her." M told him, a strange unfiltered affection in his voice that was unmistakable, "And I wanted you to hear the whole story. About me, Rachel, and Rebecca. It might help you understand her a bit better."

Jason sat down on the ground. "okay go ahead then" he said watching him.he was more than a little curious anyway.

Cai shrugged a little bit. "Uh... all we ever do is fly around and mess with people. Wanna... sneak into a human movie?" He asked.

M looked over at the statue as they spoke, "I was young when I first met her, and she was young, too. We were both about thirty, and she was a thing of wonder. She had an overwhelming sense of right and wrong and was determined to do whatever it took to make this world better, one life at a time. I didn't protest, though I felt uneasy about her working so closely with the mortals. One day, after we had been together for a few hundred years, she told me she was pregnant. We were both delighted and she even stayed home to not risk any injuries to the baby. After the pregnancy passed, she gave birth to Rebecca." M paused to give Jason a chance to interject anything he wanted to say.

Rebecca shrugged and smiled, "Why not?"

Jason seemed to be rolling everything said aroudn in his head. "from the sound of it, she was a lot like I am" He said looking at M. "we at least have the same sense of what's right" he said.

"Great. Here, uh, take my hand." He said, holding it out to her and stretching his wings.

Rebecca took his hand, "Lead the way."

M nodded, "And it's good that you know which side is which." he explained, "But, only a few years later, Rachel was back at it again. However, humans often fear what they don't understand and she wasn't willing to harm them to save herself." M looked Jason in the eye, "They tied her to a stake and burned her alive."

Cai smiled. "I intend to." He said, leaping up, spreading his wings, and taking off.

Jason sighed a bit. "that is where i am different than her. i am not afraid to harm humans if they are a threat to me or others" he said. "because if they are willing to harm others, they don't deserve my protection" he said.

M nodded, "Then I'd like you to keep that in mind so you don't suffer the same fate as her. I managed to bring her body over here so she could lie somewhere more fitting. However, because Rebecca was so young, she doesn't remember Rachel and I'd like to keep that she is my daughter a secret as long as I can. She was injured badly in my attempt to save her mother, which is why she wears the sweater. It's to hide the scars."

Rebecca followed close to him.

Jason nodded. "i won't tell her" He said. "is that all you wanted to tell me?" He asked.

Cai flew them down a few feet away from a couple romancing each other like they had seen a night or two before. "We'll need to get some money, first." He whispered.

"How much?" Rebecca asked. She knew how to get some, but how much was the bigger question.

M nodded, "I thought you needed to know the whole story. Knowledge is the mind's weapon."

Jason nodded. "thank you for telling me.' He said walking a few feet before flying up into the air.

"Enough." Cai said simply. "Just follow my lead, and fly when you see the signal. You'll know the signal when you see it." He told her before he ran and grabbed the man's pants. Cai turned to the love-making couple, Yelled "BAH!" at the top of his lungs, and flew away with the man's pants. That was, obviously, the signal.

Rebecca flew up with Cai, "So, you stole his pants?"

Cai laughed a little. "Yes, and wallet too." He said, digging a wallet out of the pocket before dropping the pants.

"Great. You just dropped your pants." Rebecca said with a light touch of sarcasm.

"Har har. But if you're in the mood for it...." Cai trailed off, joking.
