Brave New World: Part 1

"White man. He called himself a missionary." He said, pushing the necklace to her chest.

Dianne sighed, rolling her eyes, though the pattern of the cross was burned into her skin.

He grinned and released it. "So it does work." He said, smiling.

"To a certain degree, yes." She admitted.

"Good." He said, smiling a bit.

*Timeskip, a few weeks later*

Adrian stepped off of the ship and onto the dock, Addy's leash in his hand. "Sorry about the collar... not many would trust you just walking around, so others view it as safer." He said

Akahando walked into Dianne's hut and lifted up her head by her hair. "Ready to tell me where your friend went yet?"

Addy nodded, "I understand. Just don't pull on it." she smiled lightly, trying to make light of the situation.

"Even if I told you, you couldn't get there. It's across the ocean."

"Well, welcome to England." He said, showing her the city.

Akahando grimmaced. "You made it across. Why couldn't I? We could build a boat."

"Have you seen our boats? They were built for the ocean." Dianne scoffed.

Addy looked around, bewildered. She had never seen anything so big.

"Then we'll just have to steal one of those." He said

"Amazing, is it not?" He mused proudly.

She nodded, "It is. How was it built?"

"And you know how they work?" Dianne said skeptically.

"By the sweat of many men's brows." Adrian mused.

"Damn it...." Akahando muttered, releasing his grip on her hair.

Addy nodded, "I would say so... How many people live here?"

Dianne chuckled, "Like I said, you can't so it."

"A lot. Trust me." Adrian said, stepping into a carrige.

Akahando hit the post Dianne was tied to just above her head. "What's so funny?"

"You. You're so predictable." Dianne chuckled.

Addy followed him in, used to the odd looks. Even among her own people, she got stared at a lot.

"Predictable?"

Adrian closed the door and the cabbie drove the horse.

"You jump onto the first option without thinking through any problems that may come from that decision. I don't know how to man a ship either, but I at least thought of that before I tried to."

"What's the animal pulling the cart?" she asked.

"I'll learn." He said.

"Oh, that's a horse. It's a work animal." He said.

"Good luck with that. Most sailors are on the sea from the time they are ten." Dianne chuckled.

Addy nodded, trying to see it again.

He smiled a bit. "You like it?"

"Then what do you expect me to do?" He said silently, looking down.

"It's interesting. We don't have anything back that in the village. I haven't seen one on the hunting grounds either. It kind of is like a deer, but they don't behave like that."

Dianne shrugged, "What do you want Adrian for anyways?"

"Vengence. Retaliation for Addy." He said.

He smiled. "I'll have to let you ride one."

"You can ride them?" she asked, entranced.

"Then why don't you just kill me? I'm the one within reach." Dianne said simply, as though it were a simple matter.

"You're a woman. It's against my tribe's creed."

"Yes, well, with practice." He said.

"We've always just traveled on foot." Addy explained.

"I'm the one who killed your girlfriend, why wouldn't you?"

"Ah. Well, riding on horseback is much quicker... well, I suppose you can move rather fast too, though...." He mused.

"It's dishonorable." Akahando said.
