"Emmy was what we had all called her in high school. She was a sweetheart, really, she was. Such a shame what happened with her mother and father. I hope she's doing well. God, it's been ages since any of us have heard from her. She was so pretty then... I remember I used to be in love with her. Most of the guys were. After her parents died in that fire, though, she changed. She pulled back from everyone. Then when she moved in with her uncle, she was just gone... I'd give anything to bring her back to us."
-Interview with former classmate about the anniversary of the fire that killed Emelyn's parents.

Emelyn Story was born on November 8th at 12:24 pm at the Jude's Memorial Hospital in the small town of Lilac Springs. She went to Lilac Springs High School with a student body consisting of only 150 students. She seemed to have it all: she was smart, pretty, and loved by everyone for her kind sweetness. One evening, on her fifteenth birthday, her house burned down on her way back from school, killing both of her adoring parents and her two-year-old brother, Tobi. Devastated, Emmy refused to interact with anyone until her Uncle came and took her away from Lilac Springs and the haunting memories that stayed behind.

Ten years later, Emmy is a well-known columnist in Southern Chicago, writing the fluffy, happy stories for the paper along with important news. She has never written a sad or depressing column, nor does she ever speak of any fire whatsoever. She still is quite withdrawn from most people, nor has she ever gone outside her safe little box to do anything. She goes to the doctor a week from the ten-year anniversary of her family's death for a routine check-up, when they discover that Emmy has terminal cancer. She has four months to live. Determined to make up for the life she's wasted, she gives up her job at the paper, not telling a soul about her condition, and returns to Lilac Springs to live out the rest of her life in the peace of the country, determined to give love a chance.

Emmy walked into the town's coffee shop, the door ringing as she entered. She walked up to the counter, pushed her hair back with her hands, "One chocolate to go, please?" she asked the lady behind the counter softly. She nodded, walking over to get a cup, then stopped, "Excuse me miss, but you look just like one of my friends from high school. Emmy Story. Do you know her?"
"Yeah..." Emmy smiled weakly, "It's me. Surprise."

At about that time a thunderous motorcycle pulled up outside. The owner removed his helmet and walked in side. he had earned a reputation as a daredevil now. He smiled at the lady behind the counter, "the usual if you don't mind" he said glancing at her. "hey you look familiar have we met before?" he asked.

Emmy nodded, smiling as their drinks were handed to them by the lady behind the counter, "That will be $2.50 for you, Miss Emeline Story and $1.20 for you, Mr. Amaroq."
Emmy looked over with a smile, "I remember now... You played your guitar for the slow dance at prom my junior year."

Jason set down money for both drinks and chuckled. "yeah i still play you know. I got a bit of a small fry band but we are just local" he explained. "hard to believe I'm a daredevil now isn't it?" he asked laughtin.
